The Great Guilt Inducer - “Should”
How many of you are list-makers? Lists can help us organize our lives. The down side is that those tasks that we keep moving from one list to the next because they have not yet been completed end up causing unnecessary stress. They are the “shoulds” on the list. Really these things can often either wait or not be done at all and not affect anything or anyone too drastically. Leaving them on the list means that every time we see them, our brains remind us that we have not yet got that done. The little voice in our head starts saying ‘tsk, tsk’ and the finger wagging is not far behind.
So the next time you look at your list, give yourself permission to remove any items that have been transferred week after week. Take them right off the list. Keep only things that are both important to you to get done and that you are committed to completing.
Let yourself off the hook; stop ‘shoulding’ yourself! |
